Four bikers, riding vintage Royal Enfield machines, started the journey to London. In a rucksack was their precious consignment: a petition calling on the government to cancel immediately the supply of arms from Britain to Israel. More bikers joined the initial four in the Midlands and the group finally arrived at the iconic Ace Cafe in time for a hearty evening meal.
On Sunday morning the courier riders completed their run to the centre of London. The petition was then delivered to the door of number 10 Downing Street.
I believe that the Ride for Palestine has had a very positive effect. It has raised awareness of our involvement in the crimes of the Israeli army. We cannot escape being involved in their actions if we have supplied some of the weapons and components.
The Ride will now probably become an annual event drawing attention to our complicity. in different sectors. The one under active consideration for 2011 concerns the fact that our supermarkets are stocking goods produced by illegal Israeli settlements. All reasonable people must agree that whatever the exact legal position, it is morally indefensible to draw profit from the illegal acts of others. We are determined to point this out to the companies concerned.
I received this response from HMG the other day. At least there's not a large skip just behind the front door!
